What is the GLASS EMPTY Suicide Prevention Signal?

GLASS EMPTY is a signal to show when people are experiencing suicide distress.

By turning an empty glass upside down and placing a coaster on its upturned base, at participating pubs, clubs, bars, cafes and breweries, it signals that you are feeling suicidal and that you want to talk with someone to feel safe again.

This signal for help can also be successful by handing over a GLASS EMPTY coaster to bar staff to start a confidential chat.

GLASS EMPTY was chosen as a name, not just because it's a physical part of the signal, but also because it's a metaphor.

By "filling the cup" with conversation, it can help us find hope and reasons to live.

People ought not feel ashamed when they are at their lowest. They require empathy, kindness and the opportunity to speak up about what is real for them in that moment.
